If you’ve phoned purple matrix in the past you’ll have held one of the above phrases spoken to you and thought what are they talking about and where do i find that??
Well here’s a few pointer in the right direction.
Firstly what are these programs that you speak of? Well their both remote connection tools we use to help assist users with their problems wherever they are. vnc is installed on most companies computers and is normally a small icon in the bottom right of your task-bar near your computer clock and looks like a small blue or green box with an eye in the center of it. Example of what the icon looks like can be seen below.
Hovering over this icon will briefly display the ip address for the machine and this is the number which you much state when a technician asks you for your vnc number.
Now not all companies will have this software and not all machines that belong to a company that provide it will have it installed. To help the transition between you making a call to the helpdesk and the technician getting on your computer kick and easy you can check to see if Ultravnc is install on your computer. If not the program is normally located within the software directory of your company’s server, if you don’t know the folders location or dont know how to install the program speak to a technician and they’ll be able to assist you.
The second program is teamviewer which is another remote access program and is much easier to install than vnc and can be used to join two computers together that aren’t on the same server/domain or country. This program is located on our website and if you’re reading this message now, scroll up to the top of this page and on the top right and there is a light orange button called instant support, opening this will begin the process of downloading the program to your computer. If the download doesn’t start you can click once on the download for windows or mac link depending on the system your using. When the file has finished downloading it will start up a teamviewer box that will present you with an ID number which is not restricted to but may look along the lines of the image below
it’s this number that you quote to the technician when asked for your teamviewer number. Again this program is normally keep in the software folder and is called pm-support.exe, additionally the teamviewer file can be saved to a location such as the desktop instead of simply just running it for future use and save you the trouble of always downloading it again.
Of course these two aren’t the only remote connection programs that are used but are the mostly reliable ones, and should always be used first, if some how both are unavailable the technician will advise you on alternatives.
